Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları

History of TCDD

The foundations of TCDD date back to the Ottoman Empire. Turkey's railways were built by the Ottoman Empire from the end of the 19th century onwards, and after the proclamation of the Republic, the modernization process accelerated with the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in 1923.

  • 1923: In the early years of the Republic, the railway network was largely taken under state control and an organization called the State Railways and Ports Administration was established.

  • 1929: The State Railways initiated new projects to develop the country's transportation infrastructure, and railway investments were accelerated.

  • 1950s: The Turkish Republic State Railways began to rapidly expand and modernize railway lines.

  • 2000s: TCDD began to offer innovative solutions for today's transportation needs with modern railway technologies and infrastructure. During this period, investments were made especially in high-speed train (YHT) projects.
